God Is Reminding You That He Is Your First Love

God Is Reminding You That He Is Your First Love

I wrote this in the margin of my bible recently: “Busy with doing ‘good’ but forgetting to love God.”

“I know your…hard work and perseverance…that you can’t tolerate evil…Yet I hold this against you: You have forgotten your first love.” Revelation 2:2-4

Have you read scripture and immediately felt God stirring your heart? That’s what this verse does for me.

I recognize myself in this passage. Having a desire to do good, to work hard, and to persevere. None of that is bad in and of itself.  But if it becomes the totality of our relationship with Christ, then we’ve settled for good instead of God.

I don’t want to simply be busy. I want to be in love with Jesus. Spending more time with Him than doing things for Him.  This passage was written to believers who loved Jesus but lost their way. It is easy for all of us to get there.

God, may you be our first love. And may nothing, even good things, replace our affection for you. – Sandi
