Sometimes, I want God for what He can do for me, more than I want God himself. I’ve wondered, how often do I pursue things more than His heart? Perhaps God is lovingly reminding us of this truth.
“I am a shield to you, your very great reward.” Genesis 15:1
God spoke that reminder to Abraham, who longed for a son. And God answered that prayer. He gave Abraham the desire of his heart.
But God also reminded him that the greatest treasure Abraham could find was God himself. And the same is true for us.
There’s nothing wrong with asking God for things. But when our hearts long for things, even good ones, more than God’s presence, we are on a road to disappointment.
God’s heart is not only for you, but his heart is also available to you. He is your protection and shield. There’s no greater gift than God’s presence. – Sandi
