Bringing Hope to Children in Homeless Shelters

Bringing Hope to Children in Homeless Shelters

“It smells like something new.”

These are the words of a little boy receiving help from a homeless shelter. These words matter because receiving anything new is rare for him.

Thanks to you, JOY FM Prayer Bears have handed out to thousands of children in the St. Louis area. These cuddly reminders of God’s love have brought hope into foster care facilities, hospital emergency rooms, court rooms, funeral homes, and so many more hurting places.

Each one is packaged up with a scripture card of encouraging verses, reminding a child who’s walking through hard times that they’re not alone.

Recently, that hope made its way to a local homeless shelter, where children and families received Prayer Bears for the very first time.

Delivering Something New

After the drop off, a therapist who works at this homeless shelter shared how these bears brought hope to some of the kids they were working with. The children were so excited, and even gave each bear their own name!

Their therapist shared with us,

“I read the scripture card to them, and we talked about how God is with them always and loves them so much! So important for our kids to know that in the midst of all the challenges, they are still seen and loved by God!”

Hope is Precious

When given his bear, one teenage boy immediately hugged it and said…

“It smells like something new.”

Those simple words mean a lot, because in his situation, something new and that belongs just to him is precious and rare.

Thank you for helping to spread hope in our city with children who need it most!
