Peace. Or regret. Those are the two sentiments I have about this verse. I experience one or the other depending on how I walk this out:
“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry…” James 1:19
Such a simple concept. But it is so challenging to walk it out when you’re in the heat of the moment. I have regretted every time I spoke too soon and didn’t listen well. And I have seen God honor a listening heart that desires peace more than the last word.
Chances are, you’re going to have an opportunity to practice your listening and speaking ratio today. I will too. I pray that God will gently remind our hearts and ears to be open and our tongues to be tamed by His grace. – Sandi
