Every time I read this verse, I look up a word in the dictionary. Because I don’t want to settle for my interpretation…I want the full depth of the meaning.
“How great is the love the Father has LAVISHED on us, that we should be called children of God.” 1 John 3:1
I don’t use the word “lavish” often. Maybe the same is true for you. And we probably don’t experience “lavish” often either. Because it is extravagant. It is beyond generous. It is probably out of our reach.
But here’s the truth. God is beyond generous in His love for us. It is unusually rare. It is beyond what you can muster up or deserve on your own. But it is real. It is perfect. And valuable.
God doesn’t love you because of the good things you’ve done. He loves you because that is who He is and what He does…He loves extravagantly. And He doesn’t love you from afar. He brings you close. Calls you His daughter and son. His love is intimate. Extravagant and freely available. You are lavishly loved today. – Sandi
